Visit to the Glass and Clay Gallery

today we drove to Kitchener to pick up some clay. On the way we dropped off brochures in Elora and Fergus. Both The Headwater Festival and the studio Tour are coming up fast.
There is a great exhibition at the gallery, every kind of pieces Jack Sures produced in 50 years of working with clay. Large vessels and platters wall pieces, prints and drawings.
I bought a new heavily grogged clay and started an abstract piece using one of my reclining figures.

just finished a sculpture

This one is of a sleeping woman, not Georgina. I used red clay, it was built hollow, this needs patience as the clay keeps sagging in the beginning.
Today Susan Powell has organized a booth in Erin as part of Rhythm and Ribs Fest. One of my sculptures is there and I have volunteer duty this afternoon.
Yesterday we had a party at Greg's house in Erin, Headwater Festival brochures and volunteer sign up sheets to be filled out, getting ready. September will be busy.

Getting ready to enter a juried show

The deadline is August 15, I have to decide what to enter, consider what i will need for Headwater, for the tour, also how to present the pieces. This is sometimes difficult, but so important.

duty at the Wellington Arts Gallery

Today I am spending my time minding the gallery, checking up on my sculptures in the sculpture garden and thinking about my next piece! Just had Purolator call and also a costumer, so not too bad a day.
This August day is hot and humid again, here we have air conditioning, so it's bearable.

Filling out my Entry form

The due date is on the 17., so I will get my C.D. and entry form for the Headwater Arts Festival ready. I shall apply with my sculptures. Yesterday I visited the Rennan Isaacs Gallery in Guelph. There is a phantastic exhibition there right now of Stuart Oxley and Neil Shacross - Printmaker - Painter, Painter - Printmaker. This makes me want to do some prints again, maybe from my life drawings. They would go well with my sculptures.

Headwater Arts

Today I am at the library again, the best place to upload my images. Last week fired much of last winter's work, most of it came through all right. Have replaced the "in production" pieces with the finished ones on my website. "Martin", the young man with cargo pants, is still drying as well as a few others.
Right now in the last 3 weeks of our Sculpture Group, we break for the summer, I am working on a new "Georgina". This one is going to be in black clay and larger then usual. A reclining pose.

Sculpture Garden at the Wellington Artist's Gallery!

This year I have become a member of the Wellington Artist's Gallery and Art Centre at Wellington Rd. 29, RR # 4 Fergus. A formal Opening will take place on April 28 from 2 - 4pm. On this date the newly created Sculpture Garden will be opened as well. The space for the sculptures is quite wonderful, a forested area with a carpet of wildflowers. I am excited and happy to be part of this.
